Comply with all organizational and laboratory policies/procedures. Package, ship, result, and call Covid-19 results from reference laboratories (to include scanning results into the LIS order). Tech duties of a (Generalist): will rotate in all departments - Phlebotomy/specimen processing, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Urinalysis, Serology, and Microbiology. Perform testing by monitoring testing equipment and systems for acceptable analytical performance. Provides direction for non-certified staff performing waived testing. Ensures corrective actions are taken prior to patient test results being reported. Provides orientation of testing personnel responsible for specimen processing, test performance, reporting of test result, and for instrument maintenance and calibration of test systems at defined intervals. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing. Performs proficiency testing or blind specimens as assigned to assess competencies. Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow laboratory policy and procedures when test systems are not within the lab's acceptable level of performance. Must identify problems that may adversely affect test results and either must correct the problems immediately or notify Lab Manager. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. All other duties assigned by Lab Manager or Lab Supervisor. Be training in all duties of all shifts. Phlebotomy experience in all areas (geriatric, pediatric, neonate, routine, heel sticks, finger sticks); certification preferred. Collection of urine/blood drug screens- chain of custody. Prefer certification in DOT/Saliva alcohol collections. Computer skills are required. Responsible for daily routine duties in lab as outlined below. Must be flexible for scheduling purposes. Must be neat, clean, and professional in appearance. Exhibit positive human relations. Must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Will perform only those waived tests that are approved by the Lab Director and commensurate with the person's education, training or experience and technical abilities. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities performed. Must be capable of identifying problems with specimen collection that may adversely affect test results and either must correct the problem immediately or notify supervisor of problem before proceeding with the specimen processing. Must maintain a safe work environment. Maintain specimen collection area and equipment and collection trays in a clean orderly manner. Contribute to the efficient operations of the laboratory. Required to travel off site to collect lab specimens on occasion. Responsible for data entry of specimens into the hospital computer system. Required to collect urine and blood drug screens.
